When We Specify Engineered Floors
The MSI Kallum remains our primary specification for most high-traffic commercial environments. We specify Engineered Floors products in three scenarios: when the design direction requires colorways or patterns not available in the Kallum line, when project scale makes competitive pricing a significant factor, or when the installation method will be glue-down rather than loose lay.
Both the Outerbanks and Andes Plus lines deliver the same 20-mil commercial wear layer and SPC core construction as premium products. The difference is primarily in plank format—Engineered Floors uses a 7×48 plank versus the 9×60 format of the MSI Kallum, and the installation method is click-lock or glue-down rather than loose lay.
For large-scale multifamily renovations (100+ units) or hotel projects where every dollar per square foot matters, the Engineered Floors lines offer a compelling value proposition without sacrificing the commercial-grade performance required for high-traffic environments.
